Track and Field Coaches
World Champion runner Joey Woody is a coach with the University of Iowa track and field team.
Joey Woody has been named USTFCCCA Midwest Region Coach of the Year three times with the Iowa Hawkeyes, leading the sprints and hurdles group.
His athletes have won Big Ten Championships and been named All-American recently in the 100m, 200m, 400m, 800, 110m hurdles, 400m hurdles, 4x100m and 4x400m.
Scott Cappos is Director of Field Events at the University of Iowa and USATF Level III Certified Coach in the throws. Cappos was named USTFCCCA Men’s Midwest Region Throws Coach of the Year and Team USA Coach at the Pan American Junior Athletics Championships.
Several of his former athletes have represented their countries in various international competitions, including the Olympic Games and World Championships.
Cappos competed in several international competitions including the Pan American Games, World University Games and Commonwealth Games. He won two Big Ten Championships and was a three-time All-American athlete at Indiana University.
Travis Geopfert has coached five NCAA national champions, 48 All-Americans, 80 NCAA national qualifiers, 62 conference champions and 103 all-conference performers.
Coach Geopfert’s jumpers have set world leading marks, won SEC titles, NCAA titles and competed in the Olympic Games.
Geopfert was an All-American decathlete and five-time member of the U.S. vs. Germany decathlon duel team as a coach and athlete.
Boo Schexnayder is well known around the world as one of the best coaches in track and field. He helped several athletes during international competitions including the Olympic Games, winning medals on the world stage multiple times.
Coach Schexnayder developed 19 NCAA Champions during his collegiate coaching career and coached with Team USA in the Olympic Games and World Championships.
One of a hand full of coaches with Master Coach Designation from USA Track and Field, Schexnayder currently serves as the Director of the Track and Field Academy.
Coach Kern is most noted for his time at York High School with the legendary Coach Joe Newton.
While coaching at York High School, he helped the Dukes to 8 Illinois State Cross Country Championships, 19 All-State honors, 8 All-American relay teams and a National Championship.
Charlie was a five-time All-SEC runner at the University of Kentucky. Since then, he has continued to excel in the masters ranks, winning the World Masters Championships in 1,500m as well as 7 U.S. Masters Championships.

Damon is a strength coach at Auburn University and has over 10 years of experience training professional and collegiate athletes; he is certified by CSCCA, USAW and NSCA. Coach Davis has worked with track and field, football, wrestling and basketball at the Big Ten level and SEC level, helping several athletes to pro careers.
Roger Nielsen’s experience includes Head Coach Men’s USA Olympic Weightlifting Team, Head Coach, USA World Championship Team Coach and Team USA Junior World Championships.
