Joey Woody has been named USTFCCCA Midwest Region Coach of the Year and his sprinters helped Iowa win the Big Ten Championships and place in the top 10 in the nation.
Joey Woody ran competitively on the international track circuit for over 10 years, earning a spot on three United States World teams. In 2003, he won the silver medal in the 400-meter hurdles at the World Championships and was ranked second in the world in the event. Woody was also part of the 1,600-meter relay that won the World Championships gold medal in 1999. In 2000, he was a member of a world record relay.
Coaching Tips
- Train at race pace and faster
- Train at 90-100% speed
- Train under 75% speed for technique development
- Do not train at 80-90% speed on regular basis
- Run fast early in the training program to run faster at the championship phase
